Neutral Travel Themed Nursery
Hey friends! I’m so excited to share our little baby nursery— because let me tell you. It was a LABOR. OF. LOVE.
This room upstairs, used to be my at home art studio, so as you can imagine, it was A MESS! There was paint all over the floors, tons of holes in the walls from hanging my paintings, and there were supplies and junk everywhere! It was in desperate need of a new paint job and a lot of TLC.
The quarantine came at a great time, because it allowed John to have time to fix everything up (and gave him lots of projects to do). He filled all the holes in the walls, sanded and painted, added a new light fixture, and even added a new electrical plug by the window area. I was impressed with his handy-ness! The paint color we used is Sherwin Williams “City Loft”.
Then came the fun part for me— all of the decorating! I knew I wanted to do a very neutral travel themed room, with hints of blues and grays, so I had been collecting old maps and framing them for a while. We also already had an old shelf that we painted white and an antique dresser for the changing table.
From here, I started figuring out the style by getting the big stuff out of the way. Back in February I went to Paxton Home and picked out our crib, rug, and swivel rocking chair. It was so nice seeing everything in person and getting to style the nursery with all of their amazing home goods. If you are local to Lexington, I highly recommend giving them a follow on instagram and checking out their AMAZING selection of affordable luxury. You really can’t beat the prices and quality!! The swivel chair, for example, has kid proof fabric which I know will be highly appreciated once Max gets here! And the crib is convertible to a toddler bed and a full size bed! The rug is SO soft and pulls the perfect amount of blue-gray in! (It is an 8x10 for sizing reference).
For the remainder of the decorating, it was so hard not being able to go to the physical stores and pick stuff out with everything being closed, but I made due by ordering online. It was also really sad for me because I LOVE a good excuse to head to Homegoods and TjMaxx…. but I got through it. haha!
All links to where I got everything are below!
First thing that I did was paint the triptych abstracted world for above the crib because I wanted to pull all the colors of the room together… and I wanted something light weight that wasn’t glass to hang over the crib!
I am now selling prints of these world maps HERE!
